A Continuum

Day 2 - 7 July 2013
Abraham, Isaac
Genesis 12, 15, 22

Fearful for his own well-being, Abraham (then Abram) passed off his wife as his sister and acquiesced when Sarah (then Sarai) was taken - as he expected - by the Egyptians for the Pharaoh. What kind of a man is that? And this is just after God reassured him and blessed him.

Where Abraham fell short, God prevailed. God protected Sarah where Abraham failed her and even had them set away with more than they began with.

Gobsmacked. I wouldn't be able to show such mercy.

-------

Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.  But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. (Genesis 15:13-14)

So that's how we come to the conjuncture that the Israelites were held captive in Babylon for 4 hundred years.

-------

Genesis 22:2

Then again, Abraham did come to trust God with the life of Isaac in this well-known passage. Such a long way Abraham has come. God knows what will become of us and he patiently waits for the Abraham who betrayed his wife (as far as I'm concerned) to the Abraham who trusts God to provide a sacrifice in place of Issac.

Where in the spectrum am I on this day?
