finding rhythm in life

the small group has embarked on a life at work series as our bible study material. it is material catered for full time working christians who face similar challenges in their walk with with God.

yesterday's topic was finding rhythm in life. rhythm is a biblical concept, God created rhythm and has ordained us to live by a rhythm. i think the task at hand is to assess if we've included into this rhythm a Godly impetus, or better yet, have our rhythm anchored upon tangible Godly activities (devotional time, sunday church, weekly bible study etc) in the formation of an equilibrium in life.

every now and then (or sometimes more often than we wish), life throw us a curve ball and gets us out of sync with this rhythm. it could be a change in life direction, or as simple as falling ill. however even in those times, there should be somethings that remain constant so that everything else revolves around this core.

the individual challenge is to ascertain what elements constitutes this core and if God radiates from this core.

i will have to adjust to a whole new rhythm when i start my new job. i will have to cut back on certain activities (at the moment it consist quite a bit of swimming and running, watching tv, meeting up with friends at lunch time) and start putting in hours, or at the crux of the matter; re-channeling my energy for different purposes.

however, the things i have identified to keep constant while finding the new impending equilibrium includes (in no particular order: i.e. concentric rather than hierarchical) would be devotional time, church service, weekly small group gatherings, exercise and time with the geek.
i observe that we don't usually need to factor time for work because we find that work is a given, but more crucially, because we feel accountable to the job we are responsible for. therefore the key is to also be accountable to the other areas of life that we identify to be non-negotiable.

it was mentioned during last night's discussion that activities such as sunday service forms the background/backbone music in our lives like the tempo in a score. there non-negotiables would then form the bass notes in this score of life that sets the tone and pace. even in times of improvision (musical or otherwise), the basic tempo that keeps us in sync in still there, holding it all together.
