my spiritual story - part 2

My knowledge of doctrine increased after each church camp and bible study session. But my faith in God grew only when I was put in situations that needed me to trust Him. It started from little things like leading a worship session and organizing church camps, to bigger issues like career directions.

I stagnated in my spiritual walk with God when I stopped serving in church in my older teenage years till my early twenties. There was no crisis to speak of, and therefore no catalyst for any growth in my faith.

I started seeing God’s hand in my life again in my pre-service years and as a full-fledged teacher.

Teaching was never an ambition, it was a useful stepping stone for academic enhancement since my full ‘A’ Level certificate did not gain me entry into the local universities. I was listless and frustrated my poor grades – I actually tried my best. It was usual for 18 year old girls like me to temp around after the ‘A’s. I heard from a friend relief teaching was lucrative. So I casually prayed for an opening in a secondary school for a long term relief teaching post to teach specifically History and English for the next few months. I submitted my name to my alma mater and didn’t give much thought about it.

A few days later, I received news that the vice-principal from a Secondary School was desperately trying to contact me. When I returned her call, I found to my amazement that she was requesting me to fill in a relief teaching post to cover History and English for the next few months. This was against the order of bureaucracy because vice-principals and the like do not personally source for relief teachers. I found out later that the vice-principal of this Secondary School was a former teacher at my alma mater and obtained my name and contact from the list of “relief teachers-in-waiting”.

Mere coincidence of answered prayer?
