Christian discipleship is making a map of the faithfulness of God, not charting the rise and falls of our enthusiasm.
Eugene Peterson
I was born in a Methodist family, enrolled in a Methodist school for a good 10 years of my formative years (not counting 2 years at a Bible-Presbyterian kindergarten) and I attended Sunday School as the next natural thing to do.
I was familiar with doctrinal concepts and accepted Christ formally whenever there was an alter call at the end of a church camp or at the closure of chapel. It was later in life that I learnt that accepting Christ was like a spiritual wedding ceremony - it was during the marriage life that growth took place.
I wouldn’t say that I was coerced into “becoming a Christian” - even when as little children we were to repeat line by line what the Sunday School teacher prayed. at the age of 8 I personally called upon God and he answered me.
I had misplaced the remote control of the only television set at home. Everyone was getting annoyed at me. I searched everywhere but it could not be found. So one day I decided to pray the ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) of prayer to “give prayer a try”. This prayer took place when I was taking a shower. The moment I uttered, “and God, please help me find the remote control..”, my sister yelled from the living room, “the remote control is in your sticker box!”
Mere coincidence or answered prayer?
