now that the academic year is over, i'll strive to be consistent with my daily reading and reflections. experiences, movies, books, conversations are only as meaningful as the time taken to make meaning out of them, bible reading not withstanding. therefore, i'll take a step further to mediate on the given passage thoughtfully, rather then to hurriedly move onto the next action item in my to-do-list.
a lesson from today's reading from 2 samuel 5-7 is about carrying out God's intentions according to his timing and methods. this is not enough to discern what God's plan is, but also to discern the ways in which they are to be accomplished.
i think many a times christians in ministry feel that as long as they are doing something 'good', something that benefits everyone else, they are definitely on the right track. strategy and direction aren't essential.
Proverbs 16: 9 assures us otherwise.
In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.
In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.
'Steps' means the stages in the process, the direction of the course of action, the pace at which to proceed, the degree and rate of progress, and the walk itself. not to say that God is one that 'micro-manages', rather, he is one who doesn't leave us to sink or swim and struggle with insurmountable tasks.
