the first semester has come and gone, and the new one weighs heavily upon me. i have done very well in the first semester, academically and spiritually. i have made many deep and meaningful friendships with friends who have come to trust me enough to share their heart-felt struggles with me. i have also manged to meditate on the first five books of the bible - an amazing feat for me. all these was done with the strength and blessing of God.
as i embark on the new semester proper with a new syllabus and new responsiblities in my ministry, i pray that i'll sustain the balance between portioning my time and commitment to God and my academic pursuit.
it is also apt (as it always happens to be) that the start of the new semester coincides with my daily walk which continues at the book of Joshua where Joshua has been annointed the magnificent and also daunting task to taking the israelites into the promised land. God's assurance however always comes with the tasks He sets out for us.
to further assure those crossing into the promised land, God parted the jordan river to parallel the parting of the red sea. God remembers that those entering the promised land has never experienced the crossing of the red sea since that generation was wiped out in the forty years of wilderness. This shows that God personally renews his promises and mircles to each new generation of believers.
the God that delievered the isralites from egypt and brought the new generation into the promised land will also renew his promises and perform miracles to believers in the present day and age, not because he needs to extend his contract with us, but because he knows that it is us who are forgetful and need assurance.

Joshua 1:6:9
6 "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
